“What is leadership, anyway? Such a simple question, and yet it continues to vex popular consultants and lay people alike.”
I always like to start with definitions when I’m thinking about a topic. This linked article is a an interesting take on the standard notions of leadership.
My personal current favorite definition of leadership comes from Thomas Friedman’s new book Thank You For Being Late.
Harvard’s Ronald Heifetz defines leadership as
“The role of a leader is to help people face reality and to mobilize them to make change as their environment changes to ensure the security and prosperity of their community.”
I do like Kevin Kruse’s notion that leadership is a process.
